Members' Gallery: Kenrick Roff ARPS
I was born in 1921 and my first "dabble in photography" was as a child of 6 years only by bending the bellows mechanism of my father's Kodak folding camera. Ten years later, with the same camera, now repaired, I was photographing the shipping at the Thames Estuary. The resulting snapshots of the Thames barges particularly fascinated me.
During my WW2 Service in New Delhi, I was able to buy a second hand twin-lens reflex camera and photography became my principal leisure activity. In 1951 I lived in Lincoln and joined the local Camera Club whose members helped me to learn about exhibition photography. I had also joined a photographic postal group based in Lincolnshire. A member of this group introduced me to the beauty of Bromoil work and tutored me in the process. After treating myself to my first Leica camera, I joined the Leica Postal Portfolio group and won a few trophies in their Annual Exhibitions with my Bromoil work. This brought me in contact with the Bromoil Circle of Great Britain who took me in as a member some years ago.
I am still fascinated by Thames Barges and other sailing crafts and can be seen photographing them when I have the opportunity.
